The 2016 edition of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship will start this weekend in Kari Motor Speedway with more than 250 budding racers competing for the title
The 2016 motorcycle racing season in India will kick-start this weekend at Kari Motor Speedway with the first round of MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship being held. Motorsport racing has been gaining lot of interest in the recent few years and this can be gauged from the fact that more than 250 entries have been received which is a record for Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC). In total 20 races will be held in the 2016 season with country’s three top manufacturers TVS, Honda and Suzuki hosting their respective one make championship.
The promoters of the sport, Madras Motor Sports Club, have changed the categories for this season that includes Stock 165 (previously Group D, Novice), Pro-Stock 165 (previously Group D, Open) and Super Sport Indian 165 (previously Group B) which is the premium class that witnesses the best racers from across the country competing for victory. The title sponsor for the 2016 INMRC is Chennai based tyre giant MRF Tyres and all the competing bikes will be fitted with their rubber. Like previous year, Honda, TVS and Suzuki will host their respective one-make championship that compromises of two categories – novice and expert. The INMRC is the platform for budding racers to showcase their talent and it has given us champion riders like K Rajini and Sarath Kumar in the recent past.
Another interesting addition to the calendar is that for the first time in history two all-ladies race will be organised. They will be run under the banners of Honda Ladies Race and Alisha Abdullah Racing Academy Ladies Race which is supported by TVS Racing. In the TVS-MMSC one-make series the newly launched TVS Apache RTR 200 will replace the Apache RTR 180. Honda will continue to race the CBR 150 (Novice) and CBR 250 (Open). As for Suzuki it will be fielding the Gixxer 150 SF in both Novice and Open categories. The top teams to look out will be Moto-Rev Yamaha Factory Racing, Ten10 Racing, Apex Racing, Sparks Racing and United Torque Racing among others. As per the provisional programme, Friday is devoted to briefing and practice sessions, while Saturday will witness qualifying sessions in all categories followed by seven races in the post-lunch period.
